RARE MICKEY MOUSE 'PULL ON THE EAR' TIN LITHOGRAPHED MECHANICAL BANK. In super condition. This extraordinary bank, commissioned by Ideal Films, was made in Germany by Saalheimer and Strauss for the British market in 1931. Perhaps the rarest of the four versions of this bank, this 'hands apart' type is one of the finest examples of this money box we have seen. When you press down his right ear, his eyes roll up in his head and his tongue comes out to receive your coin. The five fingers and teeth depicted indicate his early European origin. The reverse of the bank reads: 'Smile please! If you only pull on my ear - you will see my tongue appear. Place a coin upon my tongue - save your money while you're young.' The side of the bank reads: 'Germany - By exclusive arrangement with The Ideal Films Ltd. All rights reserved. Registered No. 508041.' The ultimate bank for a vintage Disneyana collector. Size: 7" tall by 3" wide. CONDITION: Superb, as fine as you will find this money box. Very light scuffs on face can be seen with a magnifying glass. Two small tabs attaching top to base are replacements, but are undetectable. The bottom of the bank around the trap is bare metal. The paint has been removed, for what reason we do not know!
