WILLIAM BARRET TRAVIS (1809-1836)
COMMANDER OF THE ALAMO

Excessively rare DOUBLE Autograph Document, Signed on ONE SHEET with TWO SIGNATURES, of William Barret Travis, the 26-year-old Texas Army Lieutenant Colonel who courageously lost his life while commanding the Texas force of 188 men at the Alamo, which was completely destroyed by the Mexicans under Generalissimo Santa Anna, March 6, 1836. Both documents are receipts issued to Adam Carson for $3 charges for legal advertising, one for the estate of James Carson, the other for the estate of Thomas Carson, three lines and two lines respectively, the two penned on one side of an oblong octavo sheet, dated Nov. 8, 1829. The only such document from William Barret Travis’ Alabama legal career I have seen in fifty years. This major iconic piece of Texana was last offered for public sale in a Charles Hamilton auction, December 7, 1978, lot 247 and has been off the market over three decades. It could easily be split, giving the buyer TWO separate documents of this elusive young Texan hero who met his fate at the Alamo.
