Exceptional Sailing Ship Diorama
in Wood and Paint Construction
A very early sailing ship diorama, mid-coast Maine origin. Sails, hull, masts and flags all carved of wood and applied to board and frame, then over-painted to create the finished piece. A painted ship and lighthouse in the background add to the charm.
Condition is very good overall and applied parts are all intact. An age crack on the board and minor paint loss to one flag are of note.
We believe this is an important and impressive piece of mid 1800’s folk art capturing a classic New England seascape.
