A Cherry Queen Anne Lowboy, New York, c.1760 This is a finely crafted lowboy with excellent lines. Note the dramatic cabriole legs which extend out to bold pad feet (see detail, below right). The top is composed of strongly figured cherry with a finely chamfered edge (see below). Note that these tops were always pegged to the case, which of course, is also true of the legs. Typical of early New York furniture, it is overbuilt in terms of the size of stock used, seemingly to last for generations, and compared to English models, probably weighs more than twice as much. | |
