It is a rare moment when I can offer a pair of elegant upholstered armchairs. Here is an opportunity to acquire a true period pair of beautiful French bergères, circa 1800, which, unlike so many early chairs, are very generous in proportion and size. The back and side moldings are carved and detailed with a fine ribbon twist. The handholds terminate in scrolls above fluted Louis XVI legs. All is in a mellow old finish with recent top-quality upholstery in a dusty rose velvet with complementary trim. $3800 the pair. Additionally, please note the above fine American Federal D-shaped games table. This table, circa 1790-1810, is Sheraton in style with numerous inlaid details on mahogany, including figured panels and banding. Below are very slender reeded legs of full height. $845. |
