| A stunner! This British oil on canvas depicts a chestnut stallion with his stable mate, a bull terrier, in his stable stall. A bit of humor added by the presence of a live or dead rat. The bull terriers claim to fame. This is a large painting, masterly done by the hands of W. Wardle, dated 1891. Wardle maintains that distinct style of boldness, defined clarity, and realism that is so true of the British animal depictions. Signed and dated lower right hand corner. This painting measures, including liner and frame, 36½" x 30¾". The frame is old and may be original to the piece. This painting has been cleaned. | |
