a brown robe with gilt trimmings, she rises above the clouds in a gold crown. This boldly colorful piece was done by a country painter on a good-sized seamed canvas, 43" x 33", and has a later gilt frame. Relined. Probably Italian. A 16th century Italian lady, by stretcher notes, Beatrice Strozzi, is painted in period at a young age in a striking dress having gossamer-like lace and silk ribbons. Further red ribbons adorn her hair and coral highlights her necklace. An old label verso attributes the piece to Barocci, 1526-1612. A beautiful young lady of great life and charm.
