Oriental lacquerware was created with great variety and intricacy. Small works often were the most labor-intensive and expensive. The 9" tall table screen went at $1650, and the sake bottle at $660. Half a dozen bidders chased the writing box to the right up to $3080. The most intricate lacquer pieces were bought by dealers who reside in Japan. Eldred's photo. Robert C.
