On some occasions Paul Jacoulet printed the same subject with different backgrounds. These two 1937 editions of Premier Amour. Yap. Ouest Carolines were identical, except the background of one (left) was a passionate red ($2200) and the other was a pale beige ($2090), triggering totally different visual impacts. The latter subtle image was signed in the print in Japanese. Susan Schofield believes it was intended for the Japanese market. They sold to different buyers. Robert C.
