Ruby Lane, the on-line retail marketplace for antiques, collectibles, art, and jewelry (www.rubylane.com), has launched a new Web site, Real or Repro (www.realorrepro.com) to help buyers and sellers recognize how to spot fakes and reproductions.
Real or Repro offers an extensive, free library of articles, information, and photographs on thousands of items spanning all categories and periods. Also, buyers can research items while antiquing, via Real or Repro’s mobile format that is smartphone and tablet-friendly.
“When buying or selling antiques and vintage collectibles, it is important to be able to identify whether an item is authentic or whether it is a reproduction,” said Palmer Pekarek, director of new business development and communications at Ruby Lane. “The new site provides thousands of articles and photos that detail specific attributes to look for when determining the authenticity of an item.”
Real or Repro is endorsed by Mark Chervenka, an expert on antique and vintage reproductions and former publisher of Antique & Collectors Reproduction News. Chervenka contributed much of the site’s content. The site will feature new monthly contributions from industry-wide experts, including Chervenka.
“Ruby Lane is a vetted site, which provides buyers with the peace of mind to shop with confidence,” said Pekarek. “Few antique and vintage sites require that the items they list be authentic. We saw a great need to help educate both buyers and sellers, and created RealorRepro for their use.”
