Our October auction will feature hundreds of paintings from the outstanding collection of William H. Trayes Jr., a well-known collector on the North Shore of Massachusetts. Mr. Trayes was an active philanthropist of the North Shore Arts Association, the Rockport Art Association, the Cape Ann Museum, and Montserrat College of Art. He was the founding member of the Waldorf School in Beverly, Massachusetts, along with his wife of 63 years, Rosewitha. His fine art collection includes paintings from Emile A. Gruppe, George Sutter, Henry Martin Gasser, Aldro Hibbard, Frederick Judd Waugh, Winslow Homer, Marsden Hartley, John Sloan, Paul Manship, Lilian Westcott Hale, Milton Avery, Anna Hyatt Huntington, among others.
