Featuring an outstanding selection of historical material, including an important group of objects descended in the family of Charles Boardman (d. 1884), who, during his 30-year career in the United States Navy, served as Chief Warrant Carpenter on board the USS Wabash during the American Civil War, where he was involved in the inspection and valuation of captured Confederate vessels and blockade runners along the Southern coast. According to family history, the flag pic-tured below was Union Rear Admiral Samuel Francis Du Pont ’s personal boat flag or ensign, gifted to Boardman after the war.
