'Surprised!' by E.S. Shrapnel RCA (1847-1920)
A superb rendering of a wilderness encounter by an artist who
specialized in the hunting genre and winter landscapes. This Oil
Painting on canvas measures 15.25" x 23.25" with original
oak frame 20.5" x 28.5". Signed and dated (1910) bottom
right. Price: $22,000.
Shrapnel was an English artist who exhibited in London
before emigrating to Canada. He exhibited at the Royal
Canadian Academy 1881-1889 and at the AAM and OSA.
Works of this quality and rarity by him rarely appear on the open
market so this is a wonderful find!

Signed indistinctly “Jas D Adam,” lower right.
Joseph Denovan Adam was a Scottish painter born in 1842. Adam had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at The Fine Art Society, Edinburgh.
