19th-century American watercolor on paper of a very stern gentleman holding a book, most probably a bible. He is wearing a black coat with off white piping around the very elaborate lapels, a four button mustard vest with overall red dots. His collar and ascot are white. I am assuming that this gentleman is either a teacher or a minister. This is a very stylized painting that also could be called folk. It is housed in the original frame with an ornate mustard and silver liner with a veneered frame. This work of art measures 11¾” long by 10½” wide including the frame. In excellent condition. $695.
