Japanese studio pottery from the early 20th century enjoyed a strong auction. When these pieces came to the block, a handful of cards offered the opening bid. Americans challenged the Japanese dealers, but most lots will be returning to the Orient. This 7 7/8" high Fukagawa porcelain vase, decorated in low relief and with fine shades of blue, sold with its original kiriwood box for $880. Robert C. Eldred Company's Oriental Art Auction, East Dennis, Massachusetts, August 19-24, 1996.

$880.
