Not the typical old measure, this one went at $825

July 28th, 2005
Not the typical old measure, this one went at $825 to an absentee bidder. Composed entirely of brass, the body was elliptical rather than circular, and "US Lighthouse Service" was stamped into the bottom. The lighthouse keeper used it to measure oil for the light's burner. It descended through the family of a lighthouse keeper at Cape Hatteras. Chuck DeLuca's (Maritime Auctions) Hyannis, Massachusetts, marine auction, July 20, 1996.
